I wanted to feature them in my blog today because I think they are awesome and if you need a vet for your 'furry kids', please call them! )

A baby's amazing sense of smell

Did you know...At only 28 weeks of gestation, your unborn baby's sense of smell is awakened?

As a result, your newborn baby is able to recognize the scent of your amniotic fluid after being born?

Your baby's sense of smell helps bond you with your infant?

Your newborn baby can detect your breast milk over someone else's (after only 2 weeks)?

In general, most infants prefer sweet smells such as butter, vanilla and cream over pungent ones?

For find out more about your baby's sense of smell, check out: Your Baby's Sense of Smell at Different Ages.

lots of news

OK, lots going on in Kindermusik....

Three things real quick:

1) Have you checked out the summer schedule on the website? www.msheidi.kindermusik.net is where you need to head over. Several have already reserved their places. I am doing 7 camps for all Kindermusik stages this summer and can't wait to share them with you in my new location. Please, if you are interested in summer classes, reserve your spot today! Brochures will be handed out in class next week. (as an aside, SATURDAY April 5th will be a 'one-stop shopping' for area summer activities. It will be held at the Flower Mound Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Businesses and organizations that offer summer camps, programs or other activities for children, teens or adults will be on hand to take registrations and show what's offered. I will be there!)

2) BRING-A-FRIEND to class March 31-April 4th. Let me know if you'd like to bring a friend your child's age AND their mom to class with you NEXT WEEK. You will both receive a special gift for coming to class!

3) Discovery Toys 'open house' will be April 7-11th. Before and after your class that week, you will have the chance to see these wonderful toys and place an order with a consultant who will be on hand to help you! Fun!

Hope you had a great spring break and are ready to have fun with me these next 8 weeks that we have remaining of spring semester. Love you all.

Circles

“Our family is a circle of love and strength.

With every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love.

Every obstacle faced together makes the circle stronger.”

Happy spring and happy times with your family.

Neat website

I'm up in Kansas, but was perusing the web for something to post for you. Check out this great website. Lots of great ideas for you! Kids in restaurants, crafts, spring break ideas, child-proofing homes....it's pretty extensive.

My nephew is a doll. He is 21 months old. Living up in rural Kansas makes for some interesting toddler vocab. Like "combine". He puts a big emphasis on the 'bine' part. So cute. And "loader". He can also make quail and wildcat sounds. "Pbbbbbfffff" for tractor. He loves trucks of all kinds. It has been nice to visit here. It's always so quiet and low-key, which is a nice reprieve from our suburban, sometimes hectic life. I try to find quiet time at home, but THIS is quiet time. Literally so quiet. I sleep so well at night.

Anyway, we'll be back Thurs.

Hope you're having a great week!

To sing or not to sing

Do you want to stop singing to your child because you "can't carry a tune"?

Bravo to the parent who sings to their child! That is more important for producing a singing child than anything I can think of. Young children learn more from their parents than elsewhere, so they are learning that singing is a normal and joyful activity and they are picking up all sorts of good vibes about it.

Would anyone dare NOT to read to their child because they don't have a "Charleton Heston" resonant voice? Absolutely NOT!

Would anyone dare NOT to cook a family Thanksgiving dinner just becuase they were not Julia Child? Absolutely NOT!

Memories are made, enjoyed, and treasured more because of who is involved.

What's that saying? "How silent the forest would be if no birds sang except for the best."

Yea to the child that hears a parent singing!

Thanks, Elaine

Spring break.....already!

Hi everyone,

Seems like the semester is going so fast. We are in the midst of week 7 and the semester is nearly half over already! Next week is spring break (March 17-21). There will be no class next week. Hope you enjoy yourselves in whatever you plan to do! My blog entries might be sporadic that week. I am travelling with my children up to Kansas to visit my sisters and brother-in-laws and my sweet 21-month-old nephew! I haven't seen him since last Thanksgiving and they change so fast at this age, as you know!

Many announcements are coming up.....summer schedules after spring break,

bring-a-friend week THE WEEK OF MARCH 31-APRIL 4,

and the biggest news of all....a change of class location starting this summer. I will give you all the details after spring break, so stay tuned! :-)

Hugs to all for making my weeks so bright and filled with good things,

Heidi

Better minds through music

If you are bringing your child to Kindermusik maybe you are doing it because it's a fun thing to do together...

Maybe you are wanting your child to take piano lessons or violin lessons in a couple years so you know Kindermusik will help with musical requirements of keeping a steady beat, having a good ear, and actually reading music.

And some of you are discovering more benefits, like this new research from the DANA Foundation that states musical study positively affects a child's cognitive development....and can affect even the babies. It's an investment that's so worth it.

You already knew all this, right? Come on in, the door is open, we're waiting for you! Enroll anytime. :-)

Thank you Yvette for the information

Popcorn and drinks served for all. For advanced tickets and more information, visit http://www.lewisvillesymphony.org/ or call (972) 874-9087. Advanced tickets cannot be purchased at the recreation centers. Tickets can be purchased at the door the dayof the event. Tickets: Adults (18+) $10, Children $5, Non-walking Infants (Free), Students $8, Seniors (60+) $8, Family Rate $25.

(I've taken my children to this annual event many times and it is tops! I highly recommend it as a 'first time concert' for the young ones. You can sit on the gym mats or risers, eat popcorn and not have to worry about being so quiet.)
